Three gold medals of 2022 Yasar Dogu, Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan Ranking Series event in Istanbul, Turkey went to Iranian wrestlers. Amir Mohammad YAZDANI (70kg), Ahmad Bazri (92kg) and Mohammadhossein Mohammadian (97kg) achieved gold medal in the ranking series tournament while, Ali Savadkouhi took bronze at 79kg. One of the Iran-USA bout of the day was the 70kg final in which Yazdani began with a slide-by to a gut for a 4-0 lead before Green hit a double-leg to make it 4-2 at the break.
The second period began with Yazdani being more aggressive and faking Green a few times before a single leg to a gut wrench gave him four more points. Leading 8-2, Yazdani brought the defense, and Green got no space to complete his attacks.
The gold ended a long drought for Yazdani, who had won four silver medals at different international tournaments in seven years.
"This is the first gold medal for me at any international tournament, and I cannot tell you how happy I am," Yazdani said. "I hope I made the Iranian fans happy."
"Green is a tough wrestler, but I was confident and had faith in my defense as well," Yazdani said.
Iran's second gold came at 92kg as Ahmad BAZRIGHALEH (IRI) stopped Erhan YAYLACI (TUR) from winning a third Turkish gold of the night. He scored a couple of stepouts and a takedown for his four points, while Yaylaci scored only one takedown. While, Tokyo Olympian and two-time Ranking Series gold medalist Mohammad MOHAMMADIAN (IRI) returned to competition for the first time since losing at the Tokyo Olympics. He won the gold medal at 97kg, beating Alikhan ZHABRAILOV (RWF). The 97kg final began with Zhabrailov getting a verbal warning for inactivity. Mohammadian saw this as an opportunity and blasted a double-leg, scoring the match's first two points. He then got a single leg attack for two more points and led 4-0 at the break. The second period was much slower for Mohammadian, as he was put on the activity clock. He gave up the point, and with 15 seconds remaining, Zhabrailov scored a takedown and cut the lead to 4-3. But his final shot was blocked by the Iranian wrestler, who won his third Ranking Series gold.
