Three time world medal winner Alireza Karimi passed a successful knee surgery.

"It was a successful surgery and he can start wrestling about 7 months later" surgeon Keyhani said.  

"After postponement of Olympic Games it was best time for Karimi to have knee surgery." Iran freestyle head coach Gholamreza Mohammadi said.

Alireza Karimi won world silver medal in 2019 world championships at 92kg and captured two bronze medals in 2015 and 2018 world championships.

He also won three Asian gold medals and placed first at 2018Asian Games.

He is one the Iranian favorite wrestlers of Iran for competing at 97kg in Tokyo Olympic Games.
