TABRIZ, Iran (February 9) – Iran finished with four gold medals at the 38th international Freestyle Takhti Cup held in Tabriz, Iran, while Turkey and Mongolia finished with two gold medals each. Belarus and Bulgaria were the other countries that captured gold medals during the tournament.
Iran team won the title with 200 points. Turkey placed second with 143 points, while Georgia came in third with 84.
57kg final: Bekhbayar ERDENEBAT (MGL) TF. Nader HAJAGHANIA (IRI), 11-0
Bekhbayar ERDENEBAT (MGL), a two-time world bronze medal winner and Asian champion, defeated Nader HAJAGHANIA (IRI) on the strength of several takedowns. Mihran JABURYAN (ARM) and Dzimchyk RYNCHYNAU (BLR) took bronze medals.
61kg final: Niurhun SKRABIN (BLR) TF. Mohammad RAMEZANPOUR (IRI), 12-2
Niurhun SKRABIN (BLR) showed strong technical skills in dominating Mohammad RAMEZANPOUR (IRI) 12-2. Mohammad MALEKI (IRI) and Giorgi REVAZISHVILI (GEO) grabbed bronze medals.
65kg final: Tulga TUMUR-OCHIR (MGL) df. Morteza GHIYASI (IRI), 5-0
Iran fell short of gold in a third consecutive final as Tulga TUMUR-OCHIR (MGL) downed Morteza GHIYASI (IRI) 5-0. GhiyasI suffered an elbow injury in second period.
2015 world bronze medal winner Vasyl SHUPTAR (UKR) and 2017 Asian champion Behnam EHSANPOOR (IRI) were bronze medalists at 65kg.
70kg final: Enes USLU (TUR) df. Giorgi SULAVA (GEO), 4-3
Enes USLU (TUR), a former junior world and European champion, completed his brilliant performance at the Takhti Cup by defeating Giorgi SULAVA (GEO) 4-3 in the final bout. The bronze medals at 70kg went to Semen RADULOV (UKR) and Joshgun AZIMOV (AZE).
74kg final: Ali-Pasha UMARPASHAEV (BUL) TF. Nurlan BEKZHANOV (KAZ), 10-0
Bulgarian Ali-Pasha UMARPASHAEV was the surprise of the tournament, defeating 2016 world silver medal winner Nurlan BEKZHANOV (KAZ) by technical fall 10-0 in the final match.
Hamed RASHIDI (IRI) and two-time world medal winner Yakup GOR (TUR) were bronze medalists at 74kg.
79kg final: Omid HASSANTABAR (IRI) df. Mihály NAGY (HUN), 8-0
Omid HASSANTABAR was the first Iranian champion of the tournament and downed Mihály NAGY (HUN) 8-0. European silver medalist Murad SULEYMANOV (AZE) and 2017 junior world bronze medal winner Mohammad MOTAGHINIA (IRI) placed third at 79kg.
86kg final: Kamran GHASEMPOUR (IRI) df. Ahmet BILICI (TUR), 5-4
After introducing great champions such as Hassan YAZDANI, Reza YAZDANI, Komeil GHASEMI, Masoud ESMAEILPOUR and Mehdi HAJIZADEH, it seems the small town of Jouybar will send another wrestler among big names. Youngster Kamran GHASEMPOUR (IRI) is another wrestler from Jouybar who proved himself at the Takhti Cup by defeating Ahmet BILICI (TUR) 5-4 in the 86kg final match.
Two-time European junior champion Gadzhimurad MAGOMEDSAIDOV (AZE) and Masoud MADADI (IRI) captured bronze medals at 86kg.
92kg final: Ibrahim BOLUKBASI (TUR) df. Arashk MOHEBI (IRI), 3-3
Iranian Arashk MOHEBI was more active during the 92kg final but Ibrahim BOLUKBASI (TUR) used his experience to finish the final 3-3 and winning the match. Former junior world champion Mohammad Javad EBRAHIMI (IRI) and Batzul ULZIISAIKHAN (MGL) took bronze medals.
97kg final: Amir MOHAMMADI (IRI) df. Riza YILDIRIM (TUR), 6-1
Iran world team Amir MOHAMMADI achieved a third gold medal for Iran by beating European champion Riza YILDIRIM (TUR) in the 97kg final. Mohammadi scored six points on the strength of three takedowns.
Roman BAKIROV (AZE) and Aibek USUPOV (KGZ) placed third in this weight class.
125kg final: Parviz HADI (IRI) df. Jafar SHAMS NATERI (IRI), 3-0
With support of the Tabriz fans, three-time Asian champion Parviz HADI (IRI) earned a gold medal in his town. Hadi beat another Iranian wrestler Jafar SHAMS NATERI 3-0 in the final match.
Lkhagvagerel MUNKHTUR (MGL) and Ahmad MIRZAPOUR (IRI) were bronze medal winners at heavyweight.
