Iran and Russia Prove Dominant at the Martyrs Cup
TEHRAN (November 1) – Young wrestlers for 27 teams and 12 countries traveled to Iran last week for the International Junior Wrestling Tournament Martyrs Cup – a dual meet style tournament aimed at Junior-level wrestlers.

In Freestyle, Russia came strong defeated the host team Iran, 6-2 in the final match to win title.
A number of titled wrestlers show off in Russian team. 2014 World cadets silver medalist Maksim ZAMORSHCHIKOV had a good start for Russia, defeated Iranian Mojtaba NOROOZ SAHRAEE by tech fall in 50kg. Andreh GATAULIM (RUS) beat former Cadets world champion Erfan AEINI (IRI), 16-5 to lead Russia 2-0.
The 2013 cadet world silver medalist Younes EMAMI earned first win for Iran in 60kg but David BAEV, a 2014 cadets world champion and 2016 European junior champion helped Russia to gain another victory. In 74kg, 2016 junior World silver medal winner Ahmad BAZRI beat Radik VALIEV who recently placed second in Russia senior championships in 70kg.
Suliman OMAROV, Batyrbek TCAKULOV and Magomedamin DIBIROV gave Russia 6-2 victory in the final match with three consecutive wins in heavy weights.
In Greco-Roman, Iran and Russia again reached to the final dual but this time the host country bested Russia 5-3.
Iran achieved four victories in light weights, leaded by Poya DAD MARZ win against 2016 junior world champion.
DAD MARZ which placed fifth in 2016 junior World Championships had brilliant performance as defeated 2016 Junior World Champion Vladislav MELNIKOV. World junior bronze medal winner Arman ALIZADEH won Ruslan IUSUPOV by tech fall to secure Iranian team title in Greco-Roman.
“Martyrs Cup is one of the best wrestling tournaments in junior level which provide the opportunity for young wrestlers from powerful countries to get more experience. Also the tournament was a great chance for wrestlers from countries, which are trying to grow in this sport. “Iranian wrestling president Rasoul KHADEM said.
“We saw interesting matches full of techniques from the wrestlers who will be future Olympic champions. We watched more attractive matches in new team to team format. By support of United World Wrestling and Mr. Lalovic we hope to have more team to team competitions in future main World and continental events,” the former Olympic champion and UWW bureau member noted. 2016 Martyrs Cup results
