Ever since the First World Championship, Iran has managed to obtain a reputable rank and position in world wrestling. By the year 2007, the Iranian freestyle team has had the honor to become World Champion four times during the 1961 Yokohama, the 1965 Manchester, 1998 Tehran and the 2002 Tehran Championships, four times the vice champion during the 1971, 1973, 1995 and 2006 Championships, and to hold the third place 11 times during the 1951, 1954, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1970, 1978, 1991, 1997, 2001 and 2003 championships.
 They have also won 40 gold medals, 39 silvers, and 32 bronze medals at the world championship competitions.
By the year 2007 Iran have managed to win five gold, four silver and eight bronze medals at the greco-roman world championship competitions .
